  • This course examines tools used in the information professions. Students engage with productivity, presentation, and technology-based information analysis; principles of data storage and manipulation; basics of data visualization; metadata standards; information organization concepts; web-design strategies for findability and accessibility; and processes for managing digital assets in a myriad of environments.

    Learning Outcomes

    1. Assess cloud-based computing tools.
    2. Manipulate documents in productivity and presentation software.
    3. Develop technology-based information analyses and visualizations from structured data (e.g., spreadsheets, databases).
    4. Publish valid and accessible web documents.
    5. Compare relational and NoSQL data storage and representation principles and practices.
    6. Analyze metadata standards (e.g., MARC, DC) and information organization concepts.
    7. Appraise content and digital asset management systems.
