S573 introduces students to the roles of librarians in adult education in university and college libraries and in public libraries. The course explores information literacy, library instructional models, education and training theories, and practical approaches for optimizing learning opportunities in library-based settings. Information literacy standards from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and others are explored and applied to instructional design and practice. S573 also introduces students to outcomes-based planning and evaluation, a process for planning library-based educational programs with outcomes, or specific learning objectives in-mind.
