  • This course covers proactive career planning and professional development for library and information science. It offers resources to engage with the profession, build a community of colleagues, and navigate the job search and application process. Students learn how to gain entry into the profession and customize their career path.

    Learning Outcomes

    1. Create a professional CV and short resume.
    2. Create a targeted, convincing cover letter.
    3. Develop a personal strategic plan.
    4. Analyze and share insights on job types, career paths, job outlook, issues, and challenges in the profession.
    5. Evaluate an organization, Bureau of Labor Statistics data, job site, job description, employer background, and certificate or another credential.
    6. Develop interview questions for a hiring manager and a narrative story using the “show and tell” method.
