Human-Computer Interaction Graduate Program

Exploring how people and computing connect

Have you ever pushed a door marked “pull” … or crashed an online transaction because you hit the “enter” key instead of clicking?

Improve the human experience with technology by earning a graduate degree in Human-Computer Interaction through the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI. Our HCI graduate students research and design intuitive user interfaces, rooted in understanding the way people use technology.

By applying principles of interaction design, social science, and computing, you can design the next generation of smart devices and applications. In a world where more and more information is available and more devices are connected, the industry continues to seek and hire our talented graduates, who use HCI methods and tools to design a better user experience (UX) with information technology.

“Employers are hiring HCI graduates to provide an optimal user experience, as a driver to business success and innovation.”

Davide Bolchini, chair, Department of Human-Centered Computing

A program with strong ties to industry

Our legacy of innovation starts from our inception. The IU School of Informatics and Computing was the first of its kind in the United States, and our transformative work continues in business, research, medicine, and other fields.

Robust connections to careers, industry, and research make IUPUI’s degree program unique. Our facilities provide the hands-on experience that’s essential for developing the next generation of interaction design and technology.

Students work with faculty in the school’s Advanced Visualization Lab, Green Screen Studio, and the I-Learn Center to evaluate and create computing designs and applications focused on the user experience and emerging technology.

Online options that work with your schedule
