Student Work

Working in teams, students envision and create new technology and present informatics projects that tackle real-world problems incorporating trends in IT and including:

  • Mobile apps
  • Robotics
  • Video games
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Chatbots
  • Data visualization

Before taking iDEW classes, many students had never seen program code before. Now they’re becoming innovators, with a newfound confidence from learning an IT skill set. Their end-of-semester project presentations showcase the creativity and ingenuity the iDEW curriculum inspires and draw enthusiastic audiences of parents, administrators, industry professionals, IUPUI faculty and staff, and fellow students.

Participants have designed robots to fill potholes and assist in fire rescue, and created devices to collect and dispose of hair clippings in a salon. Other iDEW projects include a child safety monitor that delivers notifications by phone, and a wearable metronome that sends a pulse to the drummer’s arm.
