Free Summer Workshops & Certifications

Join us this summer for our exciting workshops and certifications! These workshops give iDEW students the opportunity to participate in workshops in creature and character design, game design, Google Data Analytics, A+, and Net+ certifications.

Workshops

All workshops are free to iDEW students. Contact your iDEW teacher for registration information.

All iDEW students can participate, but there are limited slots for each workshop. Students who complete the five-week Net+ or A+ certification training will qualify for up to a $600 stipend.

Game Design

Are you enthralled by PlayStation 4 or Xbox One games? Do you have an idea for a gaming world that you want to bring to life? Take advantage of this unique opportunity to become a beginning game developer! Using Unreal 4—the world’s leading game engine that was used to create “Batman: Arkham Asylum,” “Gears of War,” and the “Final Fantasy 7” remake—you’ll learn to create a fully playable, original 3-D world complete with lands, buildings, and all kinds of objects from the world of gaming. You won’t need previous experience. This is a full-day, in-person workshop and is held at Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering IUPUI. Limited Spaces available.

Advanced Creature/Character Design

Do you love creatures and aliens? Do you have a sketchbook full of original creations? Now you can bring them to life through technology! You’ll learn to draw, animate, and create a creature, alien or other characters to share with your friends and family—and how to use the Spore Creature Creator Engine. To help bring your creations to life, you’ll study myths, legends, biology, and evolution—and how your creatures fit into video games, comic books, movies, and more. You’ll also explore the creation of Pokémon and its worldwide success. This is a full-day, in-person workshop and is held at Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering IUPUI. Limited Spaces available.

Accelerated Google Data Analytics Certification

iDEW is offering an accelerated path to the Google Data Analytics Certification and IU dual credit for the summer months, no experience or degree is required. Earning this certification can prepare you for a new career in the high-growth field of data analytics. This professional training is designed by Google. By completing this program students will earn up to 13 college credit hours from Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering IUPUI. Students will need a computer and internet access as this is a remote course. Students will be able to work on their own schedule and will have coaching support online for help with pacing. Students should plan to dedicate about 30 hours per week over a two-month period or 20 hours over three months. Please note, slots are very limited and require teacher recommendation.

Python Bootcamp

Are you ready to take your skills to the next level? Join us for a two-week Python Data analytics workshop with CBI, Inc.! Learn how to handle and visualize data like a pro! You’ll get to work on a real-world project, from data acquisition to modeling and visualization, and show off your skills to your classmates. Plus, you’ll get to explore machine learning algorithms, big data technologies like Hadoop and Spark, and even neural networks and deep learning. Don’t miss out on this chance to level up your skills and dominate the world of data analytics, just like you dominate in Fortnite or Roblox!

A+ Certification Workshop

Want to learn how computers work and how to repair them? Have dreams of building your own computer? This CompTia A+ certification workshop will teach essential skills needed for any traditional IT career. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

June 12-July 14

NET+ Certification Workshop

Want to learn how to configure, troubleshoot and oversee networks? This training will help build upon your IT knowledge. The Comp TIA Net+ certification training program will prepare you for a career as an IT networking professional. THIS TRAINING IS OPEN TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE EITHER TAKEN THE A+ CERTIFICATION, ARE IN THE CLASS OF 2023, OR 2024 OR BY TEACHER RECOMMENDATION.

Technology Requirements

In order for participants to receive the ultimate experience in the iDEW virtual workshops it is recommended to have a computer that can access a virtual platform similar to Zoom. Participants are required to access a virtual platform (for Live sessions).
