IUPUI School of Informatics and Computing announces new PhD minor program to empower students performing life sciences and human computer interaction research

IUPUI’s innovative and award-winning approach to education has taken another step forward.
As part of the Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Bio and Health Informatics programs at the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, PhD students will now have an opportunity to broaden their knowledge skills, strengthening existing ties with other programs and academic schools within and across the IUPUI campus.

The School of Informatics and Computing will now be offering a PhD minor to graduate students regardless of their main area of study. The purpose of the PhD minor is to enable current IUPUI doctoral students in other disciplines, to learn, apply, and use HCI, Health and Bio Informatics theories, principles, and tools to address and study problems in their respective academic fields.
“Future Scholars should have the opportunity to learn some of the fundamentals of another program to support and augment their research,” said Dr. Mathew Palakal, associate dean for graduate studies and research. “These degree options will serve the needs of students of many of the schools at IUPUI, most notably, the Schools of Science, Medicine, Nursing, and Engineering and Technology among others.”
With IUPUI being designated as Indiana University’s life sciences campus, and the increasing use of and need for integration of technology, the School of Informatics and Computing PhD minor options will provide a unique opportunity for students pursuing advanced degrees at IUPUI.
