For broad-ranging efforts in building and promoting diversity programs and opportunities for students, Vicki Daugherty has been named an IUPUI Outstanding Woman Leader.
Daugherty, program manager and diversity coordinator at the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, was honored at the Women’s History Month Leadership Awards reception on March 28. The annual event is sponsored by the Office for Women and the Office of Student Involvement.
“Vicki exemplifies campus leadership and has been critical to managing and advancing initiatives like our Informatics Diversity-Enhanced Workforce (iDEW) program, providing opportunities for women and underrepresented minorities here on campus and at schools and organizations in Indianapolis,” says Executive Associate Dean Mathew J. Palakal.
Daugherty says the award is a true honor, and she is fortunate to be in a position to support and encourage students who aren’t traditionally attracted to technology careers. To do that, she continually builds relationships with campus, local, and national organizations that provide opportunities for scholarships, skills development, and inclusion for underrepresented groups.
“I’m lucky to work with truly deserving students in an environment that provides so many avenues for their success,” Daugherty says. “And I’m grateful to be a part of making that environment more inclusive.”
