The challenge

Create a website, web/mobile app, or a software program of your choice and topic and submit your source code, a short PowerPoint presentation about the project, and a video of no more than 2 minutes explaining how the project works.

Projects will be judged in three divisions:

  • Elementary school
  • Middle school
  • High school

Participants may work individually or in teams of no more than three (3) students. Winning projects will receive Amazon gift cards. Prizes will be awarded individually.

Judging criteria

Functionality and Correctness
Does the program produce the expected output and perform the intended tasks correctly?

Creativity and Innovation
Does the program demonstrate creative problem-solving or innovative use of programming concepts?

Code Quality and Readability
Is the code well-organized, easy to read, and properly commented for clarity?

User Interface
Is the user interface intuitive, user-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing?

Scalability
Can the program handle larger datasets or be easily adapted for different scenarios?

Error Handling
How well does the program handle unexpected inputs or errors without crashing?

Presentation and Communication
How effectively do the participants present their project to the judges or audience, explaining its purpose and features?

Use of Data Structures and Algorithms
Does the program demonstrate an understanding of data structures and algorithms relevant to the problem

Robustness and Security
Does the program have measures in place to prevent or handle security vulnerabilities and unexpected issues?

Scholarships are awarded to current high school students only, when admitted and enrolled in a Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering in Indianapolis bachelor's degree program. Scholarships and prizes are per individual student on each team.
